45+ YEARS A MECHANIC
Forty-five years of fixing cars.
I started turning wrenches in the 1980s, and I have been at it ever since. A lot has changed since then — carburetors gave way to fuel injection, and now there is a computer on every system in the car. I changed with it, because the job underneath never changed: work out what actually failed, then fix that thing.
Forty-five years of pulling on these cars means I have usually seen the noise or the leak before. That is not a boast, it is just time. When you describe what the car is doing, I am already thinking about the three things it usually is, and which one it is on your particular car.
I work on the everyday ones — the sedans, the SUVs, the pickups people drive to work. Domestic and import. I am not the man for everything, and I will tell you when I am not the man for yours.
WHY A VAN, NOT A SHOP
Why I come to you instead of running a shop.
A shop means overhead, a front counter, and a service writer standing between you and the man doing the work. It means pressure to keep the bays full and a bill padded with things you did not ask for. I drove away from all of that a long time ago.
Working out of a van means none of that. You describe the problem to the person who is going to fix it — me — and nobody is trying to sell you anything extra on the way through. When I pull up, it is the same man who answered the phone. That is the whole business, and after all this time I like it that way.

I work Daytona Beach and the communities around it — Holly Hill, Ormond Beach, South Daytona, Daytona Beach Shores, and Port Orange — seven days a week. If you are just outside the list, call and ask. It depends where you are.
